One step ahead of you Stay in motion, keep an open mind Love is a race won by two Your emotion, my solitude If I stop, I could lose my head So I'm losing you instead Either way I'm confused You slow me down, what can I do? There's one particular way I have to chooseOne step ahead of you Always someone makes it hard to move She says, "Boy I want you to stay" But I save it all for another day If I stop, I could lose my head But I'm ready for romance Either way I'm confused I don't know what I'm supposed to do I can only stay one step ahead of you Da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, dum Da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, da Da, da, da, dum Stop, I confess sometimes I don't know where I'm going Part of me stays with you I'm slowing down, what can I do It's hard to stay one step ahead of you, uh-huh One step ahead of you Time is running out, catching up with you One step ahead of you When I hold you close, can I really lose? One step ahead Only one step ahead She's one step ahead of you

Cleanup Time 03:59
Moonlight on the water Sunlight on my face You and me together We are in our place The Gods are in the heavens Angels treat us well Oracle has spoken We cast the perfect spell The queen is in the counting house Counting out the money The king is in the kitchen Making bread and honey No friends and yet no enemies Absolutely free No rats aboard the magic ship Of perfect harmony Now it begins, let it begin Cleanup time, hey, cleanup time Cleanup time, well, well, well However far we travel Wherever we may roam The center of the circle Will always be our home, yeah, yeah Yeah, cleanup time Cleanup time, cleanup time Cleanup time, cleanup time Cleanup time, cleanup time

A man in my shoes runs a light And all the papers lied tonight But falling over you Is the news of the day Angels fall like rain And love is all of heaven away Inside you the time moves And she don't fade The ghost in you She don't fade Inside you the time moves And she don't fade A race is on I'm on your side And hearing you my engines die I'm in a mood for you For running away Stars come down in you And love, you can't give it away Inside you the time moves And she don't fade The ghost in you She don't fade Inside you the time moves And she don't fade Don't you go It makes no sense When all your talking supermen Just take away the time And get in the way Ain't it just like rain And love, is only heaven away Inside you the time moves And she don't fade The ghost in you She don't fade Inside you the time moves And she don't fade

Rock On 03:22
Ooh Hey, did you rock 'n' roll? Rock on Ooh, my soul Hey, did you boogie too, did ya? Hey, shout, summertime blues Jump up (up, down) and down in my blue suede shoes Hey, did you rock 'n' roll? Rock on And where do we go from here? Which is a way that's clear? Still looking for that blue-jean baby-queen Prettiest girl I've ever seen See her shake on the movie screen Jimmy Dean (James Dean) And where do we go from here? Which is the way that's clear? Vienna 03:48
Slow down you crazy child You're so ambitious for a juvenile But then if you're so smart tell me, Why are you still so afraid? (mmmmm) Where's the fire, what's the hurry about? You better cool it off before you burn it out You got so much to do and only So many hours in a day (Ay) But you know that when the truth is told That you can get what you want Or you can just get old You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through (Oooh) When will you realize... Vienna waits for you? Slow down you're doing fine You can't be everything you want to be before your time Although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight (tonight) Too bad, but it's the life you lead You're so ahead of yourself that you forgot what you need Though you can see when you're wrong You know you can't always see when you're right (you're right) You got your passion, you got your pride But don't you know that only fools are satisfied? Dream on, but don't imagine they'll all come true (Oooh) When will you realize... Vienna waits for you? Slow down you crazy child Take the phone off the hook and disappear for a while It's alright, you can afford to lose a day or two (oooh) When will you realize... Vienna waits for you? And you know that when the truth is told That you can get what you want or you can just get old You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through (oooh) Why don't you realize... Vienna waits for you? When will you realize... Vienna waits for you?

Fashion 04:53
There's a brand new dance But I don't know its name That people from bad homes Do again and again It's big and it's bland Full of tension and fear They do it over there But we don't do it here Fashion, turn to the left Fashion, turn to the right Ooh fashion We are the goon squad and we're coming to town Beep-beep, beep-beep Listen to me, don't listen to me Talk to me, don't talk to me Dance with me, don't dance with me No Beep-beep There's a brand new talk But it's not very clear, ooh bop That people from good homes Are talking this year, ooh bop, fashion It's loud and it's tasteless I've not heard it before, ooh bop You shout it while you're dancing On the dance floor, ooh bop, fashion Fashion, turn to the left Fashion (Right) Fashion We are the goon squad and we're coming to town Beep-beep Listen to me, don't listen to me Talk to me, don't talk to me Dance with me, don't dance with me No Beep-beep, beep beep Ooh bop, do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do Fa fa fa fa fashion Ooh bop, do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do Fa fa fa fa fashion, la-la-la-la la la la la Ooh bop, do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do Fa fa fa fa fashion Ooh bop, do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do Fa fa fa fa fashion, la-la-la-la la la la la

I look high, I look low, I'm lookin' ev'rywhere I go, Lookin' for a home in the heart of the country. I'm gonna move, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna tell ev'ryone I know, Lookin' for a home in the heart of the country. Heart of the country where the holy people grow, Heart of the country, smell the grass in the meadow, Wo, wo, wo. Want a horse, I want a sheep, I wanna get me a good night's sleep, Livin' in a home in the heart of the country. I'm gonna move, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna tell ev'ryone I know, Livin' in a home in the heart of the country. Heart of the country where the holy people grow, Heart of the country, smell the grass in the meadow, Wo, wo, wo. Want a horse, I got a sheep, I'm gonna get me a good night's sleep, Livin' in a home in the heart of the country. I'm gonna move, I'm gonna go, Gonna tell ev'ryone I know, oo-oo-oo In the heart of the country. Heart of the country where the holy people grow, Heart of the country, smell the grass in the meadow, Wo, wo, wo.

The way I see it, he said, you just can't win it Everybody's in it for their own gain You can't please 'em all There's always somebody calling you down I do my best and I do good business There's a lot of people asking for my time They're trying to get ahead They're trying to be a good friend of mine I was a free man in Paris I felt unfettered and alive There was nobody calling me up for favors And no one's future to decide You know I'd go back there tomorrow But for the work I've taken on Stoking the star-maker machinery Behind the popular song I deal in dreamers and telephone screamers Lately I wonder what I do it for If I had my way I'd just walk through those doors And wander down the Champs-Élysées Going café to cabaret Thinking how I'll feel when I find That very good friend of mine I was a free man in Paris I felt unfettered and alive Nobody was calling me up for favors No one's future to decide You know I'd go back there tomorrow But for the work I've taken on Stoking the star-maker machinery Behind the popular song

Raven 02:25
Raven- so high Cloaked in a starless sky Carry angel hair Patch up the holes left behind Tears- perfect tears turn to diamonds I'll cherish each one They remind me of you Raven- so high flies though the moonless space Carry your silver brush Paint a new one in its place Tears- perfect tears fall upon the ground I'll gather each one for you I'll love you forever

about

Mood Ring started in the Fall of 2019 with a conversation between me and J.K. Harrison, who is not only a good friend but also a brilliant multi-instrumentalist and producer. We talked about doing a vocal-only cover version of the 1973 David Essex hit, “Rock On.” After laughing for a while and doing this song with our best Michael McDonald impersonations, we began recording in earnest. It did not end up being entirely vocal, but it did lead to interpreting a string of some of our favorite tunes from the 70’s and 80’s. As we added songs we also wanted to bring in the talents of other friends and artists. So, with so many people at home during this time who also have access to home recording tools, we began sending out basic tracks and outlines of the songs to them. They would then record their instruments to our guide tracks and send them back for J.K. to add them to the sauce! Fast forward about a year later and we have a 10-song album. We had a blast making this record, and my infinite thanks go to J.K. Harrison and to the many talented musicians who played on this album.
